Last Will & Testament

In the name of God, Amen. I Joseph Holland being possessed of a sound and disposing mind do hereby revoke all previous wills made in my name, and do hereby make and affirm this to be my Last Will and Testament in manner and form as follows.

Firstly, unto my children of Domentia (sp.) my wife, now at rest, I give and bequeath all that tract of land known as the Squagel (sp.) Plantation being situate upon the head of Black Swamp along Somerton run purchased of my relation Bartholemew which was a patent unto John his fathers brother. Said plantation is to be theirs forever.

Secondly, I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Ester the home plantation upon which now resides my son Solomon for as long as she shall remain my widow and at her demise said plantation shall become the inheritance of Solomon also unto Solomon for his childrens sake that parcel of land known as the Neck being situate eastwardly of March Swamp along the run adjoining Bridgton Holland's land.

Thirdly; I give and bequeath unto my son Jacob that tract of land purchased of Thomas Sanders upon which Jacob now resides along with that tract and parcel of land being situate in Bertie upon which my brother Jacob now resides.

Forthly; I give and bequeath unto the children of my child James all that tract of land along the Blackwater bear the head of Parker Swamp.

Fifthly; I give and bequeath unto my son Thomas and his children 40 pounds, the negro Sallie and her offspring along with Hazik and Tom, slaves which he now has in possession.

Sixthly; I give and bequeath unto my son Job the livestock wintering up on my land in Isle of Wight along with that plantation bargained of Murfee .

Unto my son John I give and bequeath the land upon which he now possess along with all livestock and negroes thereon.

Unto my son Joseph I give and bequeath my plantation known as Kingsale to have forever. Also the negroes Allen, his wife Jerimah and her offspring. Also the plantation bargained of Nathaniel Carr being situate along the westwardly run of the Beaverdam Swamp.

The remainer of my lands and estates in divers places are to be sold unto the higgest bidder thereon and the results apportioned equally among my other children not heretofore named save for the children of my children who have shown not love or affection and upon whom their removal has been adjudged.

I name and appoint my true and honorable son Joseph to administer and carry out these my last earthly desires. In witness whereof I place my hand and seal this 29th day of December in the year of our Lord one Thousand seven hundred ninety and nine. Acknowledged in the presence of us assembled at his bedside by his request.
