Following census records for 1820, 1830, and 1840 appear to indicate that William M. Jones was married with 2 sons and his widowed mother living in Nansemond Co., VA. in 1820. By 1830, his wife and 1 son had died. His mother, Edith, continues to live with him until her death around 1855. Adolphus (b ca 1820) appears to be the surviving son. The 1850 Federal Census, Virginia, Nansemond Co., Upper Parrish records James E. Jones (8-Nansemond Co., VA) living in the household of his parents Adolphus H. (30-Nansemond Co., VA) and Martha E. (26-Nansemond Co., VA) Jones with children William H. (6-Nansemond Co., VA) and E. G. Jones (4-Nansemond Co., VA) [Garrie was Feb 19, 1847 and died June 5, 1912. She married William Evans Beale in 1868 and is buried in the Beale Cemetery in Southampton Co., Va.]. Next door is William M. Jones (56-Nansemond Co., VA) and his mother Edith Jones (74-NC).
The 1860 Federal Census, Virginia, Nansemond Co., Upper Parrish records James Jones (19-VA) living in the household of his parents Adolphus H. (39-VA) and Martha E. (37-NC) Jones with children William (17-VA), Garrie (13-VA), Francis (8-VA), and Amcfferrin [Adolphus] (1-VA). Next door is William M. Jones (67-VA). Also in the household with William is Susan (31), Willie (6) and Lizzie (2) Jones as well as Eugenia (12) and Abraham Gardner (10) and Edith Jones (17).
The 1870 Federal Census, Virginia, Nansemond Co., Holy Nexk records James E. (29-farmer) and Eugenia D. (22) Jones with children Martha A. (4) and John P. (2). Also in the household sre Susan A. (42) and Emma (23) Jones.
The 1880 Federal Census, Virginia, Nansemond Co., Holy Neck, District 54, page records James E. (38-minister) and Eugenia D. (32) Jones with children Martha S. (13), R. C. (8), Garrie L. (1), John P. (12), Phillip A. (9), and William S. (5).
A letter from Ola Daughtrey to Ethel Daughtrey Ellis ca 1970 described the "Rev. Jimmie Jones" as a Baptist Minister.
The 1900 Federal Census, Virginia, Nansemond Co., Holy Neck, District 28, page 151A records James E. Jones (July 1841-widower-Minister) with children Ruth C. (Aug 1870), William A. (Feb 1876), Garrie L. (Mar 1879), Sallie A. (Feb 1882), and James T. B. (July 1886).
The 1910 Federal Census, Virginia, Nansemond Co., Holy Neck, District 13, page 170B records James E. Jones (68-Preacher of the Gospel) with daughter Agnes S. (28). Also in the household is Randal Rawles (35) with wife Garrie E. [Jones] (32) and daughter Elizabeth (1).
