Next door is Thomas' brother, Isaac Pearce (39) with his wife Louisa (28) and children James (13), Rebecca (11), Mary (9), Isaac (5), and Sarah (2).

Also in the household are Adline Porter (20), Ann Pearce (18), Lucy Pearce (16), Isaac Pearce (13), Sarah Pearce (12), Virginia Pearce (9), Martha Pearce (3), and Thomas Pearce (39). Barnes has 35 slaves registered in the 1860 slave schedule for Gates County.
Thomas married Annie Mary Matthews, daughter of William E. Matthews and Matilda Jane Howell. (Annie Mary Matthews was born in Jan 1848 in Gates Co., N.C. and died after 1930 in Nansemond Co., VA.)
