PORTSMOUTH - Patrick Joseph Alvino passed away April 29, 2011 in his home. Born in Vintondale, Pa., and a longtime resident of Portsmouth, he was predeceased by his wife, Lillian Joyner Alvino, and his 11 brothers and sisters. Pat was a retired Navy veteran of World War II and Korea. He also retired from the Navy Yard Commissary as a butcher. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve and the American Legion, loved to play golf, was on two bowling leagues, and was a participant in the Senior Olympics, resulting in numerous medals. Pat was also an avid gardener and Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirate fan. He will be missed by all that knew him for his tales of the old days and his dry sense of humor. Survivors include a daughter, Virginia Braun of Portsmouth; nieces, Patricia Yoder (James), Elaine Stamper (John), Roberta Brenick (Alan); grandniece, Hope Brenick; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral will be held Thursday, May 5, at 1 p.m. in Sturtevant Funeral Home Chapel, 5201 Portsmouth Blvd., by the Rev. Larry O'Brien. Burial with military honors will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home the hour before the service.
