Candace,
What a great article! [See general notes for his son, George O. A. Daughtrey] An exciting find! Sorry to say that I do not know of a direct connection to my Daughtrey line with George O. Allen Daughtry. I am sure you know that my Richard Daughtrey (ca 1770 - 1842 in Nansemond Co.) had 2 children who definitely went to Georgia:
Richard (ca 1801 - 1857), whose daughter. Francis, married Frederick Morgan, then Evans Morgan.
Appenina (ca 1812-1870) married Isaac Losey.
...
As far as the facts on the family in the article you sent me, I have in my data the following:
1850 Nansemond Co. - Nancy Daughtrey (48 - VA) with children Lucy A. (21), Soloman P. (18), William H. (15), Mills E. (13), Sarah A. (12). All Daughtrey Children are born in Nansemond Co., VA. Also in the household are Mary Beale (55) and Nathan Johnson (50).
They are living next door to the Jason Holland (45) family ... Jason's mother is Betsy Daughtrey Holland and his sister, Prisilla is the mother of Richard Daughtrey, who with his wife Appenina, who went to Georgia in a covered wagon and lived in Augusta. Jason Holland had a son, Oliver H. P. Holland, who served in the 41st VA infantry and was a cousin of my Eley Daughtrey and Robert Rawls. I have a copy of several letters he wrote where he writes of his family and mentions many names that I have researched (the family of George Daughtrey is not mentioned). I had researched this Daughtrey family trying to find a connection ... and there probably is ... but too far back for me to get there ... so I dropped the pre 1800 efforts. I did however go forward and found the following about these Daughtrey brothers:
William H. Daughtrey:
1900 Census - Newsons, Southampton Co., VA: William Daughtry (Physician, Jan 1835-NC/NC/NC), Hellen H. (wife, March 1839-NC/NC/NC), Sarah A. (sister, Sept 1838-VA/NC//NC), Annie V. Daughtry (niece, May 1862-Tenn/Tenn/Tenn). William and Hellen have been married 35 years.
1880 Census - Newsons, Southampton Co., VA: Wm H. Daughtry (Physician, 45-NC/VA/VA), Helen H. (wife, 41 - NC/VA/VA), Sallie A. (sister, 40 - VA/VA/VA), Maggie O. Holland (niece, 24-VA/VA/VA), Eula B. Joyner (niece, 22 - VA/VA/VA), Annie V. Daughtry (niece, 19 - Tenn/VA/VA). [Interesting that Wm reports his birth in NC and Sallie in VA]
1870 Census - Newsons, Southampton Co., VA: W. H. Daughtry (Physician, 35 - NC), Helen (wife, 27 - NC), George A. (16 - NC), Wm. E. (14 - NC), and Annie (9 - NC).
1860 Census - W. H. Daughtry (Physician, 25 - Gates Co., NC) ... also in the household is Richard Boon (Servant, 16 - Nansemond Co., VA) [This is our William H. Daughtrey - by comparison of who is living with Mills E. Daughtrey in 1870 and William H. Daughtry in 1880, one can establish the relationship ... namely Eula Joyner and Margaret Holland. Also, Solomon Daughtrey's children, George A., William, and Charlotte/Annie in 1860 are living with William H. Daughtry in 1870. see additional notes beow]

Mills E. Daughtrey:
1880 Census - Franklin, Southampton Co., VA: M. E. Daughtry (Physician, 44 - VA/VA/VA), Ella Daughtry (wife, 28 - VA/VA/VA) with children M.W. (5), W. E. (3), and V. E. (5/12).
1870 Census - Holy Neck, Nansemond Co., VA: Mills E. Daughtrey (Physician, 33 - VA), Sarah A. Daughtrey (30 - VA), Lucy E. Holland (21 - VA) [should be 31], Margaret O. Holland (10 - VA), Eulalia B. Joyner (13 - VA)
1860 Census - Upper Parrish, Nansemond Co., VA: Mills E. Daughtrey (Physician, 23 - VA) living in the household of Nancy Daughtrey (57 - VA) with Sallie (21 - VA), Mary Beale (70 - VA) [perhaps Nancy's mother], Wm. Holland (24 - VA). Note: Nancy is pretty well off with real estate valued at $2,500 and personal property at $4,700 and daughter Sallie with personal property valued at $3,000.

Solomon P. Daughtrey:
1860 Census - Sussex Co., VA: S. P. Daughtry (Hotel Keeper, 27 - VA), Selina (26 - VA), George (7), William (5), Charlotte (11/12). Also in the household is Littleton Gay (19 - VA) working as a bar keeper. Of course, Littleton is the given name of Salina's father, Littleton Moore, and thus, this could be Salina's nephew. Actually, it appears that this is indeed Salina's nephew. He is Littleton Allen Gay, son of William Gay (b ca 1813) and Laura Amkn Moore (b ca 1817).

The 1880 Federal Census for District 353 Turkey Creek,Wilkinson Co., Georgia, District 146 records A. O. [George Orinthus Allen] Doughtry (24 - VA/VA/VA), his widowed father S. P. Doughtry (48 - VA/VA/VA), and single brother, W. E. Doughtry (22 - VA/VA/VA). A. O. is employed in Merchandizing and farming. Also living there are I. D. Todd (21 - GA/GA/GA) and Willis Allan (22 - GA/GA/GA) who are employed as Clerks in Dry Goods. This is of course the family of Soloman P. Daughtrey includng his sons George Orinthus Allen Daughtrey and William Everett Daughtrey.

Then in 1900 in Turkey Creek, Wilkenson Co., GA ...
George O. A. Daughtry (Nov 1854 - VA/VA/VA) married for 17 years to Jinnie C. (Oct 1862 - GA/GA/GA) with children Hettins (Dec 1886 - GA), Allen W. (Oct 1889 - GA), Georgia A. J. [George O. A.] (Sept 1892 - GA), Sarah C. (Feb 1895), Annie M. (Aug 1898). George is a farmer.

1910 Census - Macon, Bibb Co., GA: George O. A. Daughtry (56 - GA/GA/GA), Jennie (46 - GA/GA/GA). Hellen (25), Jennie (22), Allen (21), George O. A. Jr. (18), Sarah (16), and Annie M. (12). George is a Shoe Salesman.

By 1930 George has passed on:
1930 Census - Macon, Bibb Co., GA: The widow Jane (sic) Daughtry (68) [head of household], Willis Allen (brother, 73), Helen (44), Jennie (42), Annie M. (31). The daughters are employed as a Librarian, Teacher at a Private School, and a Secretary at the Y.W.C.A. Interesting that all individuals and their parents are born in Georgia .... Virginia ties are lost!

Oh well ... Enjoyed the visit.
