The 1900 Federal Census for Monmouth, Jackson Co., Iowa, District 62, page 131A, dated June 23, 1900 records Joseph E. (March 1828 - PA/PA/PA) and Sarah (1836 - PA/PA/PA) Shirk with their daughter Catherine (Nov 1862 - Iowa). Joseph and Sarah have been married for 43 years and have had 3 children all of whom are still living.
Joseph married Sarah Gockley in Oct 1856. (Sarah Gockley was born on 31 Mar 1836 in Williamstown, Dauphin Co., PA and died in 1905 in Jackson Co., Iowa.)
