The 1860 census does not list Owen Adkins; however, an Elizabeth Adkins is listed in Bloomington, Monroe Co., Indiana and is probaly Owen's wife: The 1860 Federal Census for Bloomington Township, Monroe Co., Indiana, page 693,dated July 7, 1860 records Elizabeth Adkins (71 - Kentucky) living in the home of James (37 - Kentucky) and Martha (30 - KY) Adkins and their children Susan Adkins (9 - Indiana), Jerome Adkins (5 - Indiana), and twins Ella & Wm (1/12) Adkins. James is a farmer with real estate valued at $500 and a personal estate valued valued at $150. Also in the household is a female, Mary Hargus (17 - Indiana).

Owen Adkins was the son of Owen Adkins, Sr. and Agnes Goad. He married Elizabeth Sidebottom on May 1, 1804 in Pulaski County, Kentucky. Owen was a prominent minister of the Baptist Church in both Kentucky and Indiana. He had the title of Elder since he was a Baptist minister. Owen and Elizabeth had eight children who were all born in Pulaski County, Kentucky. He was in the War of 1812 as a Tennessee Volunteer. One of their children Wyatt Adkins was my great great grandfather.
Owen's parents Owen Adkins, Sr. and Agnes Goad with two of their children were massacred by Indians in 1790 possibly in the Clinch River Valley, Hawkins County, Tennessee then a territory. [The son] Owen hid in a hollow log with his sister Emelia when his parents were massacred by Indians. His parents had another child Jesse who was scalped by the Indians but survived.
