bullet  General Notes:

From http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com by Steven A. Williamson:
Nathaniel is listed in Pittsylvania County, Virginia on a 1782 tax list.

Evidence contained in Pittsylvania County deeds shows that Nathaniel belonged to one of the Adkins families descended from William Adkins (Bef. 1695 - Aft. 1773). Nathaniel lived on Bareskin (Bearskin) Creek (near Chatham), next to the land of Thomas HODGES, Joseph STANLEY, George ROBINSON, and Simeon JUSTICE. Thomas Hodges and Joseph Standley were witnesses to the 1784 will of William Adkins. Richard Atkinson and Owen Atkinson (son of William) also owned property on Bearskin Creek. Owen's father William's will does not list any son Nathaniel, thus Nathaniel was probably Richard's son.

Sometime between 1792 and 1795, Nathaniel apparently moved to Montgomery County (if the identification is correct), but in 1797 he is back in Pittsylvania. By 1820, though, he was in eastern Kentucky, living next to Jesse Adkins (son of William Adkins Jr & Lydia Owen), Absalom Thacker and other Pittsylvania families, such as the Justices.

Nathaniel appears to have had two or three other children. He may have been the father of Nathaniel G. Adkins who married Martha Henry on February 5, 1811 in Pittyslvania County. That Nathaniel apparently died before 1818 in Green Co, KY, after which Martha remarried to Samuel Brooks. Secondary sources show Martha as a daughter of Francis Henry and Mary LaPrade.
