The 1900 Federal Census for Pine Creek, Carroll Co., VA, District 5, page 113A, dated June 12, 1900 records the widow Mary E. Wright (Aug 1840 - VA/VA/VA) with her son Samuel Wright (Sept 1882 - VA). Also in the household is a servant, Luther Buckner (Jan 1889). Next door is Mary's son, Stephen Wright (Jan 1870) and his wife Lulia Wright (Nov 1869) and their children Anna M. (May 1891) and Stella (Jan 1894). Mary indicates that she has had 13 children of whom 7 are still living. The previous page of this census records Canara Marshall, the future wife of Samuel.

The 1910 Federal Census for Pine Creek, Carroll Co., VA, District 8, page 119B, dated April 29, 1910 records the widow Mary E. Wright (69 - VA/VA/VA) living with her sons Stevie T. Wright (40) and Samuel Wright (27 - VA). Mary indicates that she has had 13 children of whom 6 are still living. Also in the household is a servant, Barbara Turman (18)

The 1920 Federal Census for Pine Creek, Carroll Co., VA, District 10, page 152A, dated January 21, 1920 records the widow Mary E. Wright (79 - VA/VA/VA) living with her son, Samuel G. Wright Sr.(38), and his wife, Canara C. Wright (26), and their children Samuel G. Jr. (6), Mary F. (4 11/12), and John M. (1 5/12) on Dumill Cabain Road (sic - could be double Cabin Rd on today's maps).
