The 1860 Federal Census for Caswell Co., N.C. records W. W. Stubblefield (30), wife S. L. (20) and daughters P. B. (2) and S. (1/12).
William W. Stubblefield enlisted in Company G, 14th North Carolina Infantry on May 10, 1861 at 30 years of age. He bacame a full sergeant in April of 1862 and reduced in rank to private in November 1862. He was wounded at Spotsylvania Court House in May 1864 and at Cedar Creek in October 1864. He was captured at Richmond in April 1865 and took the Oath of Allegiance in June 1865 at Newport News, Va. He returned to Rockigham Co. N.C., later married Mollie B. Lewis and settled in Pelham Township, Caswell Co., N.C. just across the Rockingham Co. line. Clara Garrett Fountain indicates his second wife to be named Mary Elizabeth Lewis.
The 1870 Federal Census for Locust Hill Township of Caswell Co., N.C. taken August 17, 1870 records William Stuberfield (35) and wife Bettie (22) with children Peter (7), Sinia (5), Minnie (2), and Anna (5/12). Peter and Sinia are probably the children listed in the 1860 census as P. B. and S.
The 1880 Federal Census for Pelham Township of Caswell Co., N.C. (Dist 20, page 345A) taken June 16, 1880 records William W. Stubblefield (50) with sife M. B. (32) and children Sina (20), Minnie (12), Anna Bell (10), Sallie W. (7), Bessie (2), and Claudia (7/12). Next door to this family resides a Nat Stubblefield (14) listed as a servant in the household of W. T. Lewis. There is a Peter Stubblefield in the 1880 census for Gardner Store, Weakley Co., TN that is likely the oldest son of William.
The 1900 Federal Census for Graves Co., Kentucky (ED#97, page ) records William W. Stubblefield (Sept 1829) with wife Elizabeth (Feb 1849) married 34 years and children Peter B. (July 1858), Minnie (Dec 1868), Bessie (Sept 1880), Claud (Nov 1883), Georgia (June 1885), Bethel (Dec 1887).
The 1910 Federal Census for Mayfield City, Graves Co., Kentucky (ED#83, page 200A) records William W. Stubblefield (81) with wife Bessie (62) and daughters Claudia (36), Georgia (24), and Bethel (22). Also in the household is daughter Sallie W. Young (34) with her son William L. (7).
