The North Georgia News, January 19, 2000, Blairsville, Union Co., GA: Mr. Alan Richard Tirmenstein, age 76, passed away quietly in his sleep Tuesday, January 11, 2000 at his home in Lakeside Village. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and was from Indiana where he had received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees. He retired from the Florida School System in Jacksonville as a Chemistry teacher in 1986, and had made his home with his loving wife of 38 years, Betty Byrd Tirmenstein, in Blairsville, GA. He is survived by his wife and their five married children and four grandchildren. A memorial service was held in his honor, Friday, January 14th at the Mountain View Funeral Home, where his good friend, Jack Fullenton officiated.
