Published in Roanoke Times from April 2 to April 3, 2013: Thomas J. (Jack) Prillaman, 93, of Vinton, died on Easter Sunday morning, March 31, 2013. Jack served in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre and was awarded several medals including a Bronze Star. He was retired from Brad Ragan Tire and was a greeter for Wal-Mart in Bonsack for many years and was a member of Campbell Memorial Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry C. and Eliza Howery Prillaman; his eight sisters; his five brothers; and his devoted wife of 69 years, Ruby Akers Prillaman. Jack is survived by his son, H. Alfred "Al" Prillaman and wife, Nancy; his daughter, Rita P. Vaught, all of Vinton; his grandchildren, Brian Prillaman and wife, Nicole, Pamela Vaught, and Melissa Vaught Okes and husband, Andrew; and his great-grandson, Landon Okes. A service celebrating Jack's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Campbell Memorial Presbyterian Church with Pastor Jamie Smith officiating. Interment will be held in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton with Military Honors. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's Vinton Chapel.
