(April 1864) and Elizabeth (Jan 1863) Adkins with children Charles (May 1888), Otey (Jan 1890), Forde [son] (Feb 1891), and Bessie (April 1894). Charles and Elizabeth have been married for 14 years and have had 4 children all of whom are still living.

The 1910 Federal Census for Callands, Pittsylvania Co., VA, Dist 89, page 73B, dated April 23, 1910 records Charlie M. (48) and Bettie (52) Adkins with children Fordie (18) [son] and Bessie (14). Next door is Charlie's son Odie A. Adkins (20) and his wife of 1 year, Audrey L. Adkins (21). In the household with Odie and Audrey is mother-in-law Louvenie Rigney (48).

The 1920 Federal Census for Callands, Pittsylvania Co., VA, Dist 140, page 74A, dated January 21, 1920 records C. M. (58) and Ida (44) Adkins. Next door is Charlie's son, Fordie Adkins (27) with his wife, Myrtle (24) and children Nettie (5) and Willard (3).

The 1930 Federal Census for Callands, Pittsylvania Co., VA, Dist 5, page 67B, dated April 12, 1930 records Charlie M. (68) and Ida (52) Adkins with a servant, Eva Smith (30). Near by is Charlie's son, Oddie Adkins (40) with his wife, Audrey (40) and children Herbert E. (12) and Oddie Jr. (1 7/12). Charlie and Ida have been married for 16 years while Oddie and Audrey for 19 years.

* It appears that Charlie's 2nd wife as indicated above, Ida Ramsey, is the widow of Nathaniel Achilles Adkins; however, several conflicts and confirmations exist here ... the 1920 & 1930 census records Charlie and Ida living in Callands having been married ca 1916 several years after Ida Belle Ramsey, wife of Nathaniel Achilles Adkins, has died. Then there is the death certifciate for Ida Belle Adkins: her maiden name is recorded as Ida Bell Romsey ... Romsey / Ramsey ... not a big problem; her parents as C. W. Romsey & Polly Anne Blair ... consistent with the 1880 census record; however, her spouse is listed here as Booker Adkins, not Charlie M. Adkins. There are no Booker & Ida Adkins recorded in the 1920 & 1930 census records; thus, this researcher will place Ida Belle Ramsey as the 2nd wife of Charlie Monroe Adkins.

Charley married Bettie Hamlett about 1884 in Pittsylvania Co., VA. (Bettie Hamlett was born about 1858 in Virginia and died circa 1912 in Callands, Pittsylvania Co., VA.)

Charley next married Ida Bell Ramsey circa 1914 in Pittsylvania Co., VA. (Ida Bell Ramsey was born on 17 Sep 1874 in Virginia, died on 16 Feb 1933 in Pittsylvania Co., VA and was buried on 18 Feb 1933 in Family Cemetery, Franklin Co., VA.) The cause of her death was Metrial Regurgatation (sic) [Perhaps Mitral Regurgitation or leaky mitral heart valve].
