The 1850 Federal Census for Nansemond Co., VA, page 206 records Solomon Holland (7) living with his parents Connor (50) and Barbara (48) Holland and siblings Sophia A. (18), John (16), Calvin (14), and William (12) Holland.

The 1860 Federal Census for Upper Parish, Nansemond Co., VA, Suffolk P. O., page 596 (page no. 28) records Solomon Holland (16) living with his parents Conner (59) and Barbary (57) Holland and siblings Sophia A. (25) and William Holland (22). On either side of the census record are his sons and their families: John Holland (23) with his wife Nancy (20) and son William (2); Calvin Holland (22) with his wife Martha (28) and daughter Mary (11/12). Nearby is Randolph Rawls.

Soloman C. Holland served in Co I of the 41st Virginia Infantry. He enlisted as a private and was promoted to Sgt. He owned a 59 acre farm near Holland, Va. His military record indicates he had black hair and brown eyes.

The 1870 Federal Census records his farm as near Randolph Rawls (same page of the census record). The 1870 Federal Census for Holy Neck, Nansemond Co., VA, Suffolk P. O., page 250B records Solomon C. Holland (28) with his wife Mary V. (19) and children Julius F. (2) and Ella C. (3/12). Also in the household is Solomon's father and sister, Conner Holland (69) and Sophia Holland (40).

The 1880 Federal Census for Holy Neck, Nansemond Co., VA, District 54, page 87B records Solomon C. Holland (37) with his wife Mary V. (30) and children Frank (12), Ella T. (10), Sarah O. (8), Benja D. (6), Harriet Lola (4), and Cora V. (2/12 - March).
