General Notes:
The 1860 United States Federal Census, North Carolina, Rockingham Co., Northern Division (Oregon Hill Post Office, page 80B) records Abraham Sutliff (31) with wife Nancy (31) and children John (8), Rebecca (6), and Thomas (4). Also in the household are Abraham Sutliff (46), Elizabeth Sutliff (46), and Susanah Sutliff (36).
Abraham enlisted as a Private in Company I, 13th Infantry Regiment North Carolina on May 3, 1861 at the age of 37. He received a disability discharge Company I, 13th Infantry Regiment North Carolina on November 13, 1861.
The 1870 United States Federal Census, North Carolina, Rockingham Co., Wentworth, page 374B records Nancy Setliff (45) with children Rebecca (15), Thomas (13), and Abraham (10). Also in this household is Unit(y) Setliff (47) and daughter Martha J. (9). Next door is son John Setliff (19) who is listed in his own household. Nancy's husband, Abraham, is not in the household.
It should be noted that the husband of Unity is Alexander Setliff (1860 Rockingham Census) who dies during the civil war. Alexander enlisted as a private in Company I, 13th Infantry Regiment North Carolina on May 3, 1861 at the age of 32. He was wounded and hospitalized in July 3, 1863 where he later died on July 8, 1863, most probably a result of the ill fated Gettysburg Campaign. Alexander is likely a brother to Abraham.
Abraham married Nancy Jones on 6 Sep 1849 in Rockingham Co., N.C. (Nancy Jones was born about 1829 and died after 1870 in Rockingham Co., N.C..)
