The 1861 Canadian Census for Goderich, Huron Co., Canada West, page 44 records William Loft (51 - England) with his wife Ann (50 - England) and children Edwin (11 - England), Alfred (9 - England), Agusto (7 - England). They live in a 1 story log home. William is a Blacksmith and in the "Church England" religion. Near by, listed on page 13, is the oldest son of William and Ann Loft, William Loft (22 - England). Thw son is listed as a laborer and in the "W M" religion.
The 1870 United States Federal Census for Laper City, Lapeer Co., Michigan, Ward 2, page 190 records William (33), his wife Margaret (29), and their children William (6) and Shadrack (4).
The 1880 United States Federal Census for Laper City, Lapeer Co., Michigan, District 172, page 296A records Shad (15) Loft with his parents William W. (43) and Margaret (38) and brother William (16). William W. Loft is a Blacksmith born in Michigan whose parents are born in England. Margaret is born in Canada and her parents are born in Ireland.
The 1900 U.S. Census for Laper City, Lapeer Co., Michigan, ED# 41, page 179B records William W. (Sept 1837) and Margaret J. (Sept 1841) Lofft living Madison Street. They are both recorded as immigrating to the United States in 1863. They are listed as married 37 years with 2 children both of which are still living. William is a Blacksmith.
