The 1930 Federal Census for North Carolina, Forsyth Co., Kernersville, District 10, page 155B, taken April 10, 1930 records Bettie J. Stafford (11/12) with her parents John D. (32) and Ruth (23) Stafford living in the home of John's brother Charles Stafford (24) and his wife Odessell (16) at 215 East Mountain Street. John is a Stone Cutter and Charles is a salesman for a cafeteria. John indicates his age at first marriage to be 26 while Ruth says 20 ... meaning they haev been married somewhere between 3 and 6 years. Nearby is a Charles A. (59) and Esta (53) Stafford and married 35 years. Charles A. is a cafeteria Manager. Also in the household are Van W. (21) and Martha A. (17) Stafford.

WAKE FOREST - Ms. Bettie Stafford Sandy, 76, of 1612 Great Woods Rd., Wake Forest, NC died Tuesday [May 17] morning at Wake Med. Mrs. Sandy was born in Salisbury, the daughter of the late John Dewey and Ruth Maddox Stafford. She was employed by Central Carolina Bank prior to her retirement. Ms. Sandy attended Grove Park Chapel, formerly Gospel Center, for thirty plus years.
Ms. Sandy is survived by daughters, Lisa Frances Sandy and partner, Cary Jackson, of Dunn, and Linda Kyle Sandy and husband, C. Scott Daughtrey, of Wake Forest; sister, Frances Stafford Atkins, of Durham; three grandchildren, Ester, Elijah and J.J.; two nieces; one nephew; and an aunt, Ms. Willie Maddox.
Funeral services will be held Thursday 2 p.m. in Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home in Durham and other times at the home of her sister, Frances Atkins, 111 Queen Ferry Ct., Durham.
