LEE, Marion Ricks. It is with great sadness that the family of Marion Ricks Lee announces his passing on August 16, 2013, at the age of 89. He was born to Lillie Mae Ricks and James Harvey Lee on October 25, 1923, in Southampton County, Virginia. Ike, as he was known to his family and friends, will be remembered by his loving wife of 70 years, Allie Doris Doughtie; and their three children, Lou Ann Boggs of Greenesboro, N.C., Donna Lee Evans of Louisburg, N.C. and Ricks Lee of East Hampton, N.Y. He will also be remembered by his four grandchildren, Stacy, Zach, Derek and Stephanie; and three great-grandchildren, Drake, Hunter and Zain; and his many loving nieces and nephews and numerous other relatives. Ike was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served his country in the Pacific theatre in Guam, the Phillipines and Japan. His great loves were music, playing the guitar, baseball, where he excelled as a 3rd baseman, and later in life, golf. He and his family lived in Emporia, Virginia, where he farmed, raising crops and livestock, and later was manager of J.H. Lee and Sons Cement Plant, also located in Emporia. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of the Eugene H. Bloom Retirement Center and the Crater Community Hospice for their support in his final days. A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 22, at Echols Funeral Home, 806 Brunswick Avenue, Emporia, Virginia, between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 23, at 11 a.m. in Beechwood Cemetery on Hwy. 35 in Boykins, Virginia.
