bullet  General Notes:

The 1830 Federal Census for Pike Co., Kentucky records in page 365 the following heads of household:
Jesse Adkins, Sr. (70-80), 1 female (50-60), 1 female (10-15), 2 females (5-10).
Winright Adkins (50-60), 1 male (20-30), 1 female (50-60), 1 female (20-30), 1 female (15-20)
Henry Adkins (30-40), 2 males (5-10), 2 males (<5), 1 female (20-30)
Winston Adkins (20-30), 1 female (20-30), 1 female (<5)
William Adkins, Sr. (40-50), 1 male (10-15), 2 males (5-10), 1 male (<5), 1 female (30-40), 2 females (15-20), 2 females (10-15), 1 female (5-10), 2 females (<5)
Elisha Adkins (15-20), 1 female (15-20), 1 female (10-15)
Milton Adkins (20-30), 1 female (15-20)
Spencer Adkins (40-50), 1 male (5-10), 1 male (10-15), 1 male (15-20), 1 male (20-30), 1 female (30-40), 2 females (<5), 2 females (5-10)
It is feasible that Jesse has sons Winright, William, and Spencer.

There is a Jesse Adkins listed in the 1840 Pike Co. census but he is 30-40 years of age. He is living next door to Winright Adkins (60-70) and is most probably Winwright's son, and Jesse's grandson.

By 1850 the census records Winright (75 - VA) and Sarah [Mullins] (70 - NC) Adkins in Pike Co., Kentucky. On the same page (page 443) is Jesse Adkins (55 - VA) with his wife Elizabeth Adkins (27 - KY) and son Hiram Adkins (9/12 - KY); also Henry Adkins (51 - VA) with his wife Elizabeth Adkins (48 - VA) and apparent children Winston Adkins (21 - KY), Owen Adkins (18 - KY), Henry Adkins (15 - KY), Judy Adkins (12 - KY), Jesse Adkins (9 - KY), and Reuban Adkins (4 - KY).
The previous and next pages of the census record list additional Adkins families including Winwright Adkins (25 - KY) with his wife Sarah Adkins (24 - KY) and their children Clavinda (5 - KY), Henry (3 - KY), and Elizabeth (1 - KY), and one can conclude through the given names (Owen, William, Henry, Jesse) and states of birth that this is the Adkins clan of Pittsylvania Co., VA and that they came to Kentucky about 1820.

bullet  Research Notes:

From http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com by Steven A. Williamson:
Jesse signed an Oath of Allegiance in Pittsylvania County, Virginia in 1777.

He appears to have remained in Pittsylvania County, Virginia on the land willed to him by his father. By 1810, though, he had moved to Floyd County, Kentucky, and lived in that part of the county that fell into Pike in 1823. He appears on a number of land transactions in Floyd between himself and Moses, Elijah, Spencer Adkins, as well as William Taylor and John Graham.

Late in life, Jesse married Anna Morgan. In Floyd County Deed Book A, we find: "3, April 1818: Articles of Agreement between Alexander Lackey, administrator of David Morgan, decd. and William J. Mayo, Guardian of the heirs of William Morgan, Decd. WITNESS: Alexander Lackey oblidges himself to maintain and to support Anna Adkins, late Anna Morgan, during her life time. To pay all costs incured by Morgan's heirs against Jesse Adkins and all expense in getting the negroes out of the possion of said Adkins. William J. Mayo oblidges himself to give said Alexander Lackey all that part of the personal estate which is coming to the heirs of William Morgan, decd. out of the estate of David Morgan, decd., which said Ann Adkins was entitled as her dower right before she married said Jesse Adkins."
