A man with a firm handshake and a pleasant smile. Linwood had a fatal heart attack in 1974 on the 18th hole after a round of golf in Richmond, VA at the age of 73.

The 1920 United States Federal Census for Newport News (Independent City), Ward 4, Virginia, District 118 taken January 10, 1920 records Linwood Thornton (20 - VA) employed as a Secretary of a Shipping Pool. (not sure if this is our Linwood)

The 1910 United States Federal Census for Virginia, Henrico Co., Washington-Wd Richmond, District 52, page 199B records Moses (30) and Mollie (29) Thornton with sons Lynwood (9) and Hughes (6). Moses is working as a tanner. The census form states Chesterfield Co. as the incorporated place of Richmond City. It is on the South Side of the James River. Moses and Mollie have been married 12 years with 2 children.

The 1900 United States Federal Census for Virginia, Danville, District 102 records Moses (Sept 1878) and Mollie H. (Dec 1872) Thornton living at 1258 Paxton Street. They have been married 2 years. Moses is a motorman for the Electric RailWay.

The 1920 United States Federal Census for Virginia, Chesterfield Co., Manchester, District 11 page 133 A taken January 3, 1920 records Emil (39) and Mollie (54) Thornton with sons Linwood (19) and Hughes E. (15) living at the corner of Turner and New Road.

The WWI Draft Registration Card for Moses Lee Fereth Thornton records his date of birth as September 20, 1878. He is married to Mollie L. Thornton and lives at 515 Bainbridge St. in Richmond, VA.

The 1930 Federal Census, Virginia, Chesterfield Co., Manchester, District 19 records Moses L. (52) and Mollie L. (55) with son Linwood K. Thornton (24) living on Royal Ave. Moses is an inspector for the Electric Railway and "Linwood" works in a garrage. The age given for "Linwood" matches that of Hughes and I suspect that it is actually Hughes and not Linwood. See notes on Linwood's wife, Margaret Hagen.
