Gant (35 - NC) living with her widowed mother, Estelle Gant (55 - NC), They are living with Estelle's parents William H. (77 - NC) and Lillie L. (73 - NC) Smith on Park Dab Road. Edna is the only one working and she is employed as a Clerk at a Tobacco Factory earning $1,250 while working 50 weeks during the last year.

The 1930 Federal Census for Richmond, Virginia, District 89, page records Edna L. Gant (24 - NC) living with her parents N. Butler (46 - NC) and Estelle A. (45 - NC) Gant. Edna is an office clerk at a tobacco plant and Butler is a driller at a quarry. Also in the household is Verga Selph (18), daughter of Butler and Estelle and George Burgess, Jr. (6), adopted son of Butler and Estelle who have been married for 23 years. Verga Selph was married at 16. Edna became Alvah Hagen's companion sometime in the 1950s and remained with him throughout the remainder of his life.

Alexander was born in Pickens Co., S.C. in 1846 to Rutherford (b ca 1822) and Sarah (b ca 1819) Gant.

The 1920 Federal Census for Hendersonville, Henderson Co., NC, District 94 records Butler Gant (indexed as Grant) (37) with wife Estelle (34) and daughters Edna (14) and Verga (7).

Butler's WWI Draft Registration records his name as Namon Butler Gant. He lists his birth date as May 6, 1881 and his wife as Estelle Smith Gant. His place of residence is Balfour, Henderson Co., N.C.
