bullet  General Notes:

The 1910 Federal Census for Martic Township, Lancaster Co., PA, District 118, page 3B, dated April 22, 1910 records Chalmers Armstrong (26) as a single hired man living with John M. (39) and Nellie I. (32) Patton. John Patton is the Proprietor of a Hotel and Chalmers is a Clerk there. Nearby is A. Wesley Hagen and family.

The WWI Draft Registration Card dated Sept 12, 1918 in Lancaster, PA for Chalmers Armstrong records his date of birth as January 21, 1884. He is living with his wife, Lillian May Armstrong at 456 East Clay Street in Lancaster and is working a Foreman for the Steel Products Company. His physical description is tall (5' 9") and slender with light green eyes and light brown hair.

The 1920 Federal Census for Lancaster City Ward 6, Lancaster Co., PA, District 67, page 247B, dated January 3, 1920 records Chalmers (34) and Lillian (34) Armstrong with their daughter, Beulah Armstrong (17), living at 405 East Clay. Chalmers is a Foreman for a Steel Company. I am not sure how Beulah can be 17, a daughter of Chalmers, yet the 1930 census records he was married to Lillian in 1912. Also, the 1910 census above reports Chalmers as single. Perhaps Beulah is adopted.

The 1930 Federal Census for Lancaster City Ward 6, Lancaster Co., PA, District 58, page 105B, dated April 22, 1930 records Chalmers (45) and Lillian (44) Armstrong living at 411 East Clay. Also in the household is Chalmers' widowed father, Thomas Armstrong (79). Chalmers is a Carpenter for an Incubator Factory and has been married to Lillian for 18 years.

The 1940 Federal Census for Pequea Township, Lancaster Co., PA, District 36-135, page 1B, dated April 2, 1940 records Chalmers (45) and Lillian (44) Armstrong. They own their home valued at $6,000. Chalmers is employed as a Building Carpenter and has earned $1,080 working 40 weeks during the last year. Also in the household is a step daughter, Beulah Frankhauser (37) who is single. This solves the questioned posed in the 1920 census records above that listed Beulah as a daughter ... thus Lillain had to have been previously married to a Mr. Frankhauser. However, a death certificate for Beulah ... see medical notes for Beula Miley.

The WWII Draft Registration Card (for men born on or after April 28, 1877 and on or before February 16, 1897) for Chalmers Armstrong dated April 27, 1942 lists his date of birth as January 21, 1884 in Martic Township, Lancaster Co., PA. He is living with his wife, Lillian Mae Armstrong, on Willows Street, Pequea Township, Lancaster Co., PA. He is working for the Lancaster Iron Works and his physical description is 5' 8", 152 lbs with blue eyes, brown hair and ruddy complexion.
