The 1880 Federal Census for Cypress, Nansemond Co., Virginia, District 53, page 71A, dated July 14, 1880 records Jesse Langston (39) with his wife Sarah Langston (30) and their sons Edward J. Langston (6) and John H. Langston (1 m). Also in the household is Maria Doughtrey (26) who is listed as a "cook". [Maria is most likely Sarah Jane's sister.]

Jesse married Sarah Jane Daughtrey, daughter of James Hunter Daughtrey and Margaret Catherine Langston, on 24 Dec 1872 in Nansemond Co., VA. (Sarah Jane Daughtrey was born about 1847 in Nansemond Co, VA. and died after 1880 in Nansemond Co., VA.)
