The 1880 Federal Census for Strasburg Borough, Lancaster Co., PA, District 172, page 458B, dated June 10, 1880 records Kate Engle (3) living with her parents Michael (49 - Germany/Germany/Germany) and Francis (32 - Germany/Germany/Germany) Engle and siblings Annie (7 - PA), Emma (5 -PA), John (2 - PA), and Evie Engle (3/12). Michael is a laborer. The Engle family is living in the same dwelling as Ann Worth (65 - PA/PA/PA) and her son Mifflin (26 - PA) on West Maine (sic) Street.

The marriage record (see marriage notes) indicates that Kate's maiden name was Englest; however, the 1880 census record above records Engle. The 1900 census does indeed record Englest: The 1900 Federal Census for Upper Leacock Township, Lancaster Co., PA, District 111, page 148B, dated June 5, 1900 records the widow Frances Siedhof (March 1848 - Germany/Germany/Germany) with her daughter Eva Englest (March 1880 - PA/Germany/Germany) and grand daughter Mertle Beathy (Aug 1899) [Eva is listed as single]. Next door is Frances' son, John Englest (April 1878), with his wife Katie (March 1879) and children Leon (April 1898) and Earl (April 1900). Frances has had 6 children all of whom are still living. She immigrated in 1873.

The Engle and Englest surname appears as Englert in the WWI Draft Regestration of John Englert. John is married to Katie Englert and born April 9, 1878. The family lives in Bird in Hand, Lancaster Co., PA. The WWI Draft Registration confirms his surname as Englert.

The 1910 Federal Census for Upper Leacock Township, Lancaster Co., PA, District 103, page 48A, dated May 4, 1910 records the widow Frances Siedhof (62 - Germany/Germany/Germany) with her son, John Englest (32), and his wife Katie E. (31) and children Leon W. (11), Earl W. (10), and Minnie May (4). Frances has had 6 children all of whom are still living. John and Katie have been married for 13 years and have had 5 children of whom 3 are still living.

The 1920 Federal Census for Upper Leacock Township, Lancaster Co., PA, District 132, page 99A, dated January 16, 1920 records the widow Francis Siedhof (72 - Württemberg/Württemberg/Württemberg) living with her son, John Englest (41), and his wife Katie E. (40) and children Earl W. (19), Minnie M. (13), Mary A. (8), Ada L. (6), Bertha A. (4 5/12), and Iva V. (2 6/12).
