The 1870 Federal Census of Portsmounth City, Norflok Co., Virginia records an Alfred Hingerty, age 69, with wife Ellen, age 45, and children Martha W., age 10, Alfred D., age 7, Francis E. age 7, Thomas R. age 5, and George W. age 3. 69 year old Alfred is a Boatswain in the USN. Children Alfred, Francis, and Thomas were born in New Hamsphire while all others were born in Virginia.

The 1880 Federal Census for Isle of Wight Co., VA records G. W. (16) [George] and A. (18) [Alfred] Hingerty living in the household of C. B. (22) and Martha W. (22) Johnson. Martha [Hingerty] Johnson is their sister and their parents have apparently died.

The 1910 Federal Census for Chuckatuck, Nansemond Co., Virginia, District 2, page 7B, dated April 2, 1910 records Alfred D. (47 - Maine/DC/) and Ida V. (34 - VA/VA/VA) and children Hungerty with children Mary E. (9), Lion V. (6), Lucille C. (4), and Sarah L. (18). Alfred is a blacksmith with his own shop and has been married to Ida for 11 years. They have had 3 children all of whom are still living.

The 1920 Federal Census for Nansemond Co., VA (ED 13, page 13A) records the widower Alfred Hingerty (58 - VA/VA/VA) with daughters Lilten? (27 - VA), Lema (17 - VA), and Lucile (12 - VA).

Alfred married Ada Virginia Pruden on 29 Nov 1899 in Nansemond Co., VA. (Ada Virginia Pruden was born on 5 Mar 1876 in Nansemond Co., VA, died on 5 Jun 1912 in Nansemond Co., VA and was buried in Bethlehem Christian Church Cemetery, Suffolk, VA,.)
