The 1880 Federal Census for Nansemond, Va. records Sophia A. Haslett (54 - VA/NC/NC) as a widow. Her parents are recorded as from N. C. She is the head of household. Living with her is her son James A. (34) and his wife, Virginia C. (32), daughter, Cora Ann (21), son Jethro D. (20) and "son's sons" William W. (10), Charles B. (8), and John O. (6) Haslett.

Sophia married Jethro H. Haslett on 13 Sep 1838 in Gates Co., N.C. (Jethro H. Haslett was born about 1809 in Virginia and died about 1865 in Nansemond Co, VA..)
