During the Civl War period William becomes a Hotel Proprietor and Liquor Salesman and then moves to Fulton County, PA: The 1870 Federal Census for Brush Creek, Fulton Co., PA, Akersville P. O., page 42A, dated July 27, 1870 records Wm H. (40 - Hanover) and Mary J. (21 - PA) Sieling (sic) with children Augustus (11 - PA), Gats (7 - PA), Laura (5 - PA), and Hellen (6/12 [Nov] - PA). William is a farmer with real estate valued at $1,200 and a personal estate valued at $300.

The 1880 Federal Census for Brush Creek, Fulton Co., PA, District 207 records Augustus M. Sieling (20 - PA) living with his parents, William (56 - Hanover/Hanover/Hanover) and Mary J. (41 - PA/PA/PA) Sieling and siblings Gates (15), Laura (14), Helen (10), James R. (8), Lilly (6), Harry (4), and Annie (2). William is a stone mason. note: by 1900, Mary J. Sieling (Aug 1836) is a widow living with her son, Gates Seiling, and his family in Brush Creek.
