bullet  General Notes:

Part of the following information was obtained from an article appearing in the Roanoke Times years ago.

The Old Day homestead, located about a mile west of Narrows, Virginia, and the oldest dwelling in Wolf Creek Valley, was built about 1778 by Isaac Hale and his wife, Nancy. He and his brothers, Charles and Daniel, settled in the area. Charles built a house on the north side of Wolf Creek and Isaac constructed nearby the highest log house ever erected in Giles County.

During the Civil War Isaac, his son Perry, and five sons-in-law enlisted and their families lived in the log house for the duration of the conflict.

Isaac Hale's daughters married as follows:
Clementine to James Brown
Mary to Charles Hale
Sarah to Rufus Brown
Eliza to Jim Hare
Miriam to Isaac Day

Perry Day, son of Isaac Day, married twice. His first wife, whose last name was Christie, died at the birth of their son, Robert. A grandson, Robert Christie Day survives and makes his home in Whittier, California.

About 1890 Perry B. Day married Lillian Belle Wilburn and the couple moved into the old homestead. They altered the house somewhat by removing the top three logs which gave the home its striking height, and by weatherboarding.

Children of Perry B. and Lillian W. Day married as follows:
Jessie to Joe French
Lula to Robert L. Lambert
Ann to Thomas J. Donegan
Mary to Clarence Hylton
George to Mary Lee Shufflebarger
Clyde to Nina S. Johnson
Eric to Mary Jane Coburn
Philip S. Day was single

All are now deceased.

The 1850 Federal Census for Giles Co., VA, page 406A records Isaac (55 - VA) and Nancy (53 - VA) Hale with children Clementine (15 - VA), Mary (10 - VA), and Sarah (7 - VA). The 1860 Federal Census for Giles Co., VA, page 867 records Isaac (65 - VA) and Nancy (59 - VA) Hale with children Mary (19), Sarah (17), and Eliza O. Hale (10/12) [Eliza appears to be Mary's daughter, see general notes on Mary Hale for 1870 census facts]. Isaac has real estate valued at $4,000 and a personal estate valued at $5,400 including 8 slaves. Next door is Isaac's son Daniel P. Hale () with his wife () and children .
