bullet  General Notes:

The 1850 Federal Census for Nansemond Co., Va. records Elisha T. Crop (11) living with his parents John (36) and Margaret A. (35) Crop [Cross]. His siblings include Mary Ann (15), William H. (9), Charles (6), Harriet E. (4), and John (6/12) Crop. Actually, the name looks to be written Crofs, the old style for double s, ie Cross.
The 1860 Federal Census for Nansemond Co., Va., Upper Parish, records what is most likely the family of Elijah T. Cross: John (45) and Margaret (44) Crofs [Cross] with children William (20), Harriet (13), Charles (16), and John (11). Elijah is not listed in the 1860 census records.

(The following is NOT the right Elijah Cross!!!) Elisha Cross did serve the Confederacy during the Civil War. He enlisted in Company E, 33rd Infantry Regiment North Carolina on November 5, 1863 at the age of 35. He was promoted to Full Corporal on 15 January 1864 (Estimated day of Promotion). He was taken POW on May 6, 1864 at The Wilderness, VA and confined on May 17, 1864 at Point Lookout, MD (and later paroled). He was exchanged on September 18, 1864 and returned to duty on January 15, 1865 (Estimated day). He was taken POW on April 2, 1865 near Petersburg, VA and confined on April 4, 1865 at Point Lookout, MD. Elisha took The Oath of Allegiance on June 26, 1865 at Point Lookout, MD.
