The 1900 Federal Census for Birch Creek, Halifax Co., Virginia, District 44, page 185B, dated June 19, 1900 records H. O. (Dec 1852 - PA/PA/PA) and Julia F. (June 1856 - VA/VA/VA) Kerns with children Gertrude (Sept 1877 - VA), Florence (Aug 1879 - VA), Ruby (Nov 1880 - VA), Maris (Aug 1884 - VA), Stella (Oct 1887 - VA), Burton (Oct 1889 - VA), Trevillian (Aug 1891 - VA), Oscar (May 1893 - VA), and Stanley (Feb 1898 - VA). Also in the household is lodger Cal Trevillian (Sept 1869 - VA). H. O. is a Miller.

The 1910 Federal Census for Birch Creek, Halifax Co., Virginia, District 58, page 120A, dated April 22, 1910 records the widower Hiram O. Kerns (57 - PA/PA/PA) with children Gertrude (Sept 1877 - VA), Florence (28 - VA), Ruby (26 - VA), Maris (24 - VA), Stella (21 - VA), Burton (has been erased), Trevillian (18 - VA), Oscar (16 - VA), and Stanley (13 - VA), and Blun (7 - VA). Also in the household is brother-in-law Clarence Trevillian (38 - VA). Hiram O. is a Banker while Clarence is a Miller in a Flour Mill.

Julia married Hiram Oscar Kerns in Feb 1875. (Hiram Oscar Kerns was born on 14 Dec 1852 in Lancaster County, PA and died on 27 Jun 1931 in Danville City, (Pittsylvania Co.), Virginia.) The cause of his death was angina pectoris.
