Preceding and during the American Revolution Robert Blackwell served in Capt. Nathaniel West's Company, Orange Co NC militia in 1771 then in 1st Lt./Capt Ramsey's Co. in 1777. He was a member of the NC House of Commons 1796-97 and owned 1,394 acres "Stony Fork", Moons Creek, Caswell Co., NC .
