Birth Record in the John Hagen Family Bible presently with John Wesley Hagen records Oram "Wessley" Hagen.

In an April 2008 visit, Oram's son, John W. Hagen, relates what it was like growing up in the home shared by his father, grand father, and great grand father at the family Blacksmith Shop. The Shop in Rawlinsville was next door to the Hagen house where 4 generations of Hagens briefly lived together and 3 generations of Hagens carried on the trade & traditions from Mount Nebo. John never knew his great grand father as he had died when John was very young but he learned what it was like to earn a living at the forge. Horse shoes were made, sized, and installed and farm implements were repaired and specialized. Of course being around a hot furnace where iron was beaten and formed was potentially dangerous and not for the average youngster. John helped with the chores but many of his friends were understandably not allowed near the business end of the work. He has many great memories of those times and has helped to preserve that memory of the work of his predecessors with a collection of implements created by his ancestors he proudly displays on the downstairs walls of his home in Parkesburg.
