Cause of her death was Murdered: Throat Cut. General Notes: The 1900 Federal Census for Ironton, Upper Township, Lawrence Co., Ohio (ED# 84, page 107B) records Nancy A. Massie (Oct 1836-widow) living with daughter Mary Massie (July 1868) and daughter Orvilla Hopkins (July 1862-widow) and her husband Thomas J. Hopkins (Jan 1860) and their son Thomas D. Hopkins (July 1896) living at 58 South Fourth Street. Nancy is listed as running a boarding house It is of interest that she indicates she has had 5 children of which all 5 are still living, which of course implies that Williard (Grady) Massie (Haskins/Williams) is not her biological son. Nancy married Denison Massie on 12 Aug 1858 in Lawrence Co., Ohio. (Denison Massie was born circa 1834 in Lawrence Co., Ohio, died on 2 Apr 1889 in Lawrence Co., Ohio and was buried in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery, Greasy Ridge, Mason Twp, Lawrence Co., Ohio.) |
