The 1940 Federal Census for Floyd District, Scott Co., VA, ED# 85-9, page 148A, dated May 20, 1940 records the widower Walter Ramsey (44 - VA) with children Orris B. Ramsey (18 - VA), Laura Ramsey (8), John Ramsey (7), and Ruby Ramsey (5 - VA) living on Highway #72. Walter has completed 3 years of schooling and is a Laborer for the W. P. A. earning $140 working 20 weeks during the last year. Orris has completed 5 years of schooling and is a Laborer for the C. C. C. earning $270 working 36 weeks during the last year.

The 1930 Federal Census records Walter Ramsey and his family living at 178 Railroad Avenue in Pocahontas, Tazewell Co., VA: Walter (36 - VA/VA/VA) and Janie (23 - VA/VA/VA) Ramsey with children Orris B. (9) and Myrtle (7). Walter has been married to Janie for only three years and the age of first marriage is 33 for Walter and 20 for Janie. Walter is a loader in the coal mines.

The 1920 Federal Census records a Walter P. Ramsey (24 - VA/VA/VA) with wife Dania (22 - VA/VA/VA) living in the Floyd District of Scott Co., VA, ED#95, page 102B, dated January 14, 1920. In the household are Walter's widowed mother, Martha H. (52 - VA/VA/VA) and brothers John T. (16) and Clayton (12). Next door is brother Willard M. Ramsey (29) with wife Dora B. (28) and children Birtha O. (6), Mary K. (4 2/12), and Bonnie D. (6/12). Next door to Willard are uncles of Willard and Walter: James A. (57) and Martha L. (38) Ramsey with children Nathan W. (19), Nannie P. (18), Russel J. (16), and Lelia V. (14) and William (42) and Flora E. (34) Ramsey with children Nora E. (14), Dora E. (12), Mary J. (9), William H. (7), and Nettie E. (5).

The 1930 Federal Census does record Clayton R. Ramsey (23), brother of Walter, and new wife Emma (17) living on Railroad Ave. in Pocahontas, Tazewell Co., VA. This indicates that the family listed above is the correct family in that the 1930 census records both Clayton and Walter living on the same street.

The WWI Draft Registration Card for Walter Pridemore Ramsey taken in Wise Co., VA on June 5, 1917 records his date of birth as November 10, 1893 (the SSDI records March 6, 1894) and his place of birth as Scott Co., VA. He is employed as a coal miner with the Virginia Iron, Coal, and Coke Co. of Toms Creek, VA with his mother and two brothers as dependents. His physical description is medium height and build with brown eyes and brown hair.
