Irvin B. Hailey

Irwin B. Hailey enlisted as a Private in Company C, 18th Infantry Regiment Ohio on April 22, 1861 at the age of 21. He mustered out of Company C, 18th Infantry Regiment Ohio on 28 August 1861 in Columbus, OH.

Irwin B. Hailey (also indexed as Haley/Halley) enlisted in Company B, 2nd Cavalry Regiment West Virginia as a Corporal on September 1, 1861 at the age of 21. He was killed in action while serving with Company B, 2nd Cavalry Regiment on September 5, 1864. Some transcriptions indicate the location as Barboursville, WV however, regimental records indicate that the 2nd Cavalry was in the Winchester, Va. area during the Sept. 1964 campaign nowhere near Barboursville. With that in mind, Irwin was probably killed at Berrysville, Va. not to be confused with Berrysville. WV. His death was reported in the Ironton Register on Oct. 27, 1864.
