The History of Western Maryland Including Biographical Sketches 1968 Vol. 2 , page 1246, relates Samuel Prather's father to be Richard, among the earliest settlers of Washington Co., Maryland. Richard Prather patented a tract called "Richard's
Choice". Launcelot Jacques, grandfather of Richard's wife, patented land in Washington Co. in 1740, having, with other Huguenots, fled France in 1720.
