The Maryland Herald and Hagerstown Weekly Advertiser - August 26, 1812:
It is with pleasure we announce. that on Monday the 17th of August, Captain David CUSHWA's company of infantry, was paraded in front of his Quarters, for the purpose of furnishing their quota of Militia. The captain informed the men, that if volunteers could not be had, a draught would be resorted to, and to the satisfaction of everyone present the quota alloted to the company turned out to a man; and we verily believe if as many more had been wanted, they could have been had - So great a desire among young men to volunteer in defence of the rights and liberties of their country, we never witnessed - and it is with pleasure we record the names of these young patriots, who have so nobly volunteered their services - Philemon CROMWELL, Robert CHAMBERS, George STEINMETZ, David STOLTZ, Stephen CROMWELL, James MYERS, Phillip TROXELL and Abraham WATSON.
