The 1870 Federal Census, Texas, Wise Co., Precinct 1, page 502 records William Foster (38-Tenn) with wife Sarah (28-Arkansas) and children: Martha (8), William (7), Samuel (5), John (3), and Nancy (8/12). John and Nancy are listed as born in Arkansas and the other three children in Texas. Next door is John C. Foster (30) his wife Mary and children Robert (3) and William (2/12).
It should be noted that the 1860 Federal Census, Kansas Territory, Arapahoe Co., Denver records a William Foster (28-Tenn) and John Foster (20-Tenn). Their occupations are listed as Trader.
The 1880 United States Federal Census, Texas , Wise Co., District 130 page 215B records W. P. Foster (48-Tenn) with wife S. F. (38) and children W. H. (17), S. M. (15), J. F. (13), N. L. (11), M. C. (8-female), A. T. (6-male), T. P. (4-male), M. J. (3-female), Merit (1-female). The family is living next door to P. W. Minter and his wife M. L. (Foster) Minter and two children.
