The 1900 Federal Census for Irisburg Disrict, Henry County, VA, District 50, page 74A records James G. (May 1850) and Naney (sic) E. (March 1853) Winn with children Matilda C. (Feb 1882), Ben (May 1884), John A. (May 1885), George L. (Nov 1887), Daniel R. (March 1891), Mattie B. (May 1893), and Lucy M. (Feb 1896). James is a Blacksmith and has been married to Nannie for 20 years. Nannie has given birth to 13 children of which 10 are still living.

The 1910 Federal Census for Irisburg Disrict, Henry County, VA, District 66, page 66A records Jim G. (59) and Mamie (sic) E. (58) Winn with children Daniel R. (19), Mattie (16), and Lucy M. (14). James is a Blacksmith in his own shop and has been married to Nannie for 40 years [should be 30 years]. Nannie has given birth to 13 children of which 10 are still living. Also in the household is Jim's widowed brother, Henry D. Winn (42) and his nephew Stearling Winn (7) (probably Stearling's son).

The 1920 Federal Census for Leatherwood Disrict, Henry County, VA, District 112, page 148A records Jim G. (69) and Nannie E. (68) Winn with their widowed daughter Catherine Womack (39). James is a Blacksmith in Axton Village. Nearby is a son, Daniel R. Winn (28), with his wife, Sallie (22), and their children James D. (4 2/12) and David R. (2/12)
