Michael Eggleston and Martha Jane (Winn) Minter
Michael Eggleston Minter, given his mother's maiden name as his middle name, was born in January, 1854. Age seven when the Civil War broke out, he was eleven when it ended. On December 13, 1873, a few weeks shy of his twentieth birthday, Mike married Martha Jane Winn, daughter of Leatherwood blacksmith Henry Jordan Winn and his wife Matilda Catherine Clark. Martha Jane was the fifth of sixteen children in her family, and whether as a child or sometime later, she became generally known as "Babe." Her oldest brother, James Gabriel Winn, three years older than she, married Mike's older sister, Nannie Elizabeth Minter.
