The 1900 Federal Census for Reading, Ward 1, Berks Co., PA, District 45, page 67B, dated June 2, 1900 records Katie (Dec 1772) and Howard (Feb 1874) Becker living with Katie's parents, Issac (sic) (Jan 1833 - PA/PA/PA) and Katie (Oct 1845 - PA/PA/PA) Gromis at 331 South 5th Street. Also in the household is Florence Gromis (Aug 1891). Issac is a Teamster while Howard is a Driver of a Laundry Wagon. Issac and Katie have been married for 33 years and have had 5 children all of whom are still living. Howard and Katie have been married for 3 years and have had no children.
Note: The census record above indicates Isaac was born in January 1833 and his age as 67. Subsequent records indicate he was born closer to 1843.


The 1910 Federal Census for Reading, Ward 1, Berks Co., PA, District 47, page 67B, dated April 18, 1910 records some unusual data: Isaac (67 - PA/PA/PA) and Catherine (64 - PA/PA/PA) Gromis are living at 331 South 5th Street. That is usual enough; however, also in the household are Irvin C. (24) and Katie M. (20) Souders with their daughter Cora E. Souders (1). Katie Gromis married Howard Becker and Katie's sister, Florence, married James Souders ... and James is an Optician (Irvin listed occupation). Katie's listed age is the same as Florence, and Irvin listed age is the same as James and the 3 years married is exactly when James and Florence married. Perhaps Irvin and Katie are actually James and Florence ... the 1920 census has no record of Coro, Irvin, and Katie.
Isaac and Katie have been married for 42 years and have had 5 children all of whom are still living. Irvin and Katie have been married for 3 years and have had 1 child. Isaac is a Teamster while Irvin works as an Optician in an Optical Works.

Katie married Howard D. Becker on 24 Jun 1897 in Reading, Berks Co., PA. (Howard D. Becker was born in Feb 1874 in Pennsylvania and died after 1900 in Reading, Berks Co., PA.)
