S. I. (George) Jankoski
- Born: Apr 1863, Poland/Germany
- Marriage: Kondere/Konstance circa 1885 in Poland/Germany
- Died: After 1910, Reading, Berks Co., PA.
General Notes:
George Jankowski is listed in the 1889 and 1890 Reading City Directory as a laborer living at 421 Bell Alley.
The 1900 Federal Census, Pennsylvania, Berks Co., Reading, ED# 49 records S I Jankoski (April 1863-Poland/Germany) wife Kondere (1863-Germany) and children Annie (1886-Germany), Laura (Feb. 1887-PA), Kattie (Nov. 1891-PA), Francis (Sept. 1892-PA), and Rosie (April 1894-PA) living at 720 Little Neversink Street. They have been married 15 years and the date of immigration is listed at 1887.
The 1910 Federal Census, Pennsylvania, Berks Co., Reading, 2nd Ward, ED# 51 records George (49 - German-Polish/German-Polish/German-Polish) and Gussie (47 - German-Polish/German-Polish/German-Polish) Jankowski with children Francis (17), Rosie (15) and Gussie (9) living on 442 South 7th Street having been married 25 years. Also in the household are three of the daughters of George and Gussie and their families: Lewis (25 - Russian-Polish/Russian-Polish/Russian-Polish) and Anna (24 - German-Polish/German-Polish/German-Polish) Levalski with children Stanley (5), Joe (2), Lucie (4/12); as well as Joe (24 - Russian-Polish/Russian-Polish/Russian-Polish) and Laura (22 - PA) Cearz with children Florance (2) and John (1/12); and John (22 - Russian-Polish/Russian-Polish/RuSsian-Polish) and Kattie (20) Falinski with daughter Gussie (7/12). Also in the household is Leo Levalski (18 - Russian-Polish/Russian-Polish/Russian-Polish). George reports immigrating in 1885; Gussie in 1888; Lewis in 1902; Anna in 1908; John in 1906; and Leo in 1906. John's surname is indexed as Lacinski and looks like Lalinski while Lewis' surname is Levalski ... Leo could be related to Lewis or possibly John and the surnames are merely a best guess by the census taker.
The Berks County Marriage Index, 1885-1929 lists Kate Jankowska married to John Falinski in 1909. Early 1900s records indicate the surname as Jankowski or Jankowska but he Feb 15, 2004 obituary in the Reading Times/Reading Eagle for Theresa L. Orlando indicates the surname as Janakowski [See general notes on Theresa L. Falinski].
The 1920 Federal Census, Pennsylvania, Berks Co., Reading, ED# 55 page 67B/68A records the widow Constance Jankowska (57) living with her daughter Katherine (30) and husband John Falinski (32-Poland) with their children Konstance (10), Hermanie (8), Theresa (7), Rosa (5), Anna (3), and Cecelia (1 11/12). Also in the household is Stanley Falinski (28-PA), brother of John.
It is of interest that the 1920 Federal Census for Reading, Berks Co., PA records a Thomas (80 / Father-in-Law) and Rose (70 / Mother-in-Law) Jankowski living with Theodore (30) and Rose (23) Stagkowski ... apparently this Rose Jankowski is not the daughter of George and Constance.
S. married Kondere/Konstance circa 1885 in Poland/Germany. (Kondere/Konstance was born in 1863 in Poland/Germany and died after 1920 in Reading, Berks Co., PA..)
