The 1900 Federal Census for Pittysylvania Co., Va, Pigg River District 82 records the widower Joseph McDowell (May 1835). Also in the household are daughter Mattie McDowell (Feb 1883) and g son John Adkins (Feb 1883). I suspect that these children are actually twins and are both grand children named Adkins; however, Mittie is named as Joseph's daughter by Danny Ricketts ... see research notes for Mollie Belle Jones, wife of William Ballard Adkins.
