Marian LeGrand Gilmer

   Cause of her death was Overturning of automobile due to getting off concrete in passing a Bus - Chest crushed and dislocation of spinal vertebra.

The 1920 Federal Census for Greensboro Ward 1, Guilford Co., North Carolina, District 143 records Marion Gilmer (16) (Gilmer indexed as Siemer at ancestry.com) in the household of her parents Bernard G. (41-Tenn) and Minnie (40-NC) Gilmer living at 102 North Edgeworth. Also in the household is Marion's brother, Bernard G. Jr. (6). Bernard Sr. is an agent for the Railroad.

According to an article in the Oct. 3, 1928 Danville Bee Newspaper, Howard Adkins and Marion Gilmer were married in Baltimore, Maryland the previous day. The bride was given in marriage by her father, B. G. Gilmer, of Greensboro, NC.

Marian died in a traffic accident just 2 miles north of McKinney, Va. [McKenney, Dinwiddie Co., VA] She was taken to a Petersburg hospital where she died. Marian was driving when the automobile skidded and turned over several times. According to an article in the March 10, 1930 Danville Bee Newspaper, Miss Mary E. Mayes, her companion at the time, lies in the hospital seriously injured. Howard and Marian had been married just 18 months.
