The 1930 Federal Census for Belvidere Township, Boone Co., Illinois, District 2, page 162A, dated Aprill 11, 1930 records Walter (40 - Nebraska/IL/IL) with his wife Gladys (37 - IL/Indiana/IL) and daughter Eunice (16 - IL/Nebraska/IL) living at 306 West Madison Street. David is employed as what appears to be County Manager for Mail ??? house. He and Gladys were first married 19 years ago.

The 1940 Federal Census for Belvidere Township, Boone Co., Illinois, District 4-4, page 85A [image 29 of 42 at www.ancestry.com], dated Aprill 23, 1940 records Walter Conrad (50 - Nebraska) with his wife Mary Conrad (52 - Illinois) living at 601 East Hurlbut Avenue. Walter has completed 2 years of high school and is employed as a Plater at Sewing Machine Factory earning $1,080 working 52 weeks during the last year. Mary has finished 7th grade in school and is employed as a Wrapper at the Casket Hardware Factory earning $645 while working 47 weeks. They are renting their home at 601 Hurlbut Street for $15 / month and both are wage or salary earners in private work. Walter qualified for the supplementary questions on this census form where he indicates his parents were both born in Illinois.
It should be noted that in the 1940 census Walter's wife, Mary, is 2 years older than Walter while the 1920 and 1930 census records above indicate his wife, Gladys, is 2 or 3 years younger ... thus Mary and Gladys appear to be 2 different people and this researcher does not know the "what happened to" Gladys. Records below seem to indicate Mary and Gladys are the same person.
