Robert Monroe Adkins (1911 - 1987) married Isabelle Gibson (1917 - 2002) ... however, subsequent research has found the following:

KINSTON, N.C. \emdash Sarah Isabelle Rich Adkins, 90, of Stockton Road, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2006. She was born June 29, 1915, in Bladen County. Her husband, Robert Monroe Adkins preceded her in death. She leaves two sons, Bobby Don Adkins and wife, Janet of Minnesota Beach, N.C. and John Rich Adkins of the home and his fiance Gloria; daughter Kathy Potter of Kinston; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; and special friends, Libby Mitchell, Mary Kuzdenyi and Gloria J. Davis. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 12, at 1207 Stockton Road, Kinston. Arrangements by Howard Carter Funeral Home.

Thus it appears that Robert Monroe Adkins married Sarah Isabelle Rich. This seems consistent with the 1930 census that records: The 1930 Federal Census for Schoolfield, Tunstall, Pittsylvania Co., VA, ED#31, page 143B, dated April 11, 1930 records Isabelle Rich (14 - NC/NC/NC) as a step daughter living with parents William M. (55 - NC/NC/NC) and Lilly (37 - NC/NC/NC) Sparks and her siblings Marvin R. Rich (19), John R. Rich (17), Calore Rich (12), Edwin Rich (8), and Katherlin Rich (6). William is a Carpenter in a Cotton Mill and has been married since the age of 18 while Lilly has been married since the age of 13. This census record is but 2 pages from the record containing Isabelle future husband, Robert Monroe Adkins ... see general notes on her future father-in-law, Floyd Monroe Adkins.


The 1920 Federal Census for Cypress Creek, Bladen Co., North Carolina, District 8, page 195A, dated January 12, 1920 records Adolphus (43 - NC/NC/NC) and Lilly (39 - NC/NC/NC) Rich with children Eddie (15), Vandalia (13), Sallie (11), Bessie (7), and Marvin (5). Adolphus is a farmer.

The WWI Draft Regitration Card for Adolphus Stewart Rich records his date of birth as June 4, 1875. He is a married farmer living in Garland, Bladen Co., NC.

The 1900 census records Adolphus living in Georgia but by 1910 he is in NC and married: The 1910 Federal Census for Cypress Creek, Bladen Co., NC, District 8, page 161A, dated April 30, 1910 records D. S. Rich (34 - NC/NC/NC) with his wife Lillie (30 - NC/NC/NC) and children Eddie (6 - NC), Vandalia (4 - NC), and Sallie (2 - NC). Adolphus is a farmer and has been married to Lillie for 8 years. They have had 3 children. Also in the household isAdolphus' widowed mother, Teracy Rich (74 - NC/NC/NC) who indicates she has had 12 children of whom 8 are still living.
