By 1920 it appears that John has a new wife and has moved to Roanoke, VA: The 1920 Federal Census for Roanoke, VA, District 36, page 186B, dated January 17, 1920 records John R. Ferguson (47 - VA/VA/VA) and his wife Lily M. (27) and children Katie L. (16), Vernon L. (14), Annis (12), and Rufus (8) living at 414 Harrison Avenue. John is a Laborer at the Railroad Shop. By 1930 John is back in Franklin County: The 1930 U.S. Census for Brown Hill, Franklin Co.,Virginia, Ferrum Village, District 5, page 48B, dated April 8, 1930 records John R. Ferguson (55) and his wife Lettie M. (38) and children Rufus M. (19), Maurice C. (8), Henry T. (4), Robert L. (3), and W. Layman (1). He is employed as a farmer.

Obituary for Henry T. Ferguson in the January 17, 2005 Martinsville Bulletin Henry Thomas Ferguson, 79, of 110 Pinnacle Drive, Martinsville, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at Blue Ridge Rehab Center. He was born Sept. 12, 1925, in Franklin County to John Robert Ferguson and Lillie Maude Cannaday Ferguson. He served in the Navy during World War II and retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation. He received a degree from National Business College. He also was a member of the Woodmen of the World Association and the National Woodmen of the World Association where he served as treasurer. He also was a member of the American Legion and of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister; and two brothers, Carl Maurice Ferguson and Robert Lloyd Ferguson. Surviving is one brother, Woodie Laymon Ferguson Sr. of Spencer. The graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Roselawn Burial Park with Dr. David Cockran officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at McKee-Stone Funeral Services and other times at the home of his brother at 1811 Penn Store Road, Spencer. Memorials may be made to the Cancer Center of Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, 1906 Bellview Ave., Roanoke, Va. 24014.
John married Ada R. Meador, daughter of John Sparrel Meador and Sarah E. Fralin, on 10 Feb 1897. (Ada R. Meador was born in Feb 1877 in Franklin Co., VA and died circa 1912 in Blackwater, Franklin Co., VA.)
