Mason Saunders Bradshaw
(September 25, 1925 - February 3, 2012)
Mason Bradshaw was born on September 25, 1925, in a small Southern town in Virginia called Carrsville. Mason's grandfather was a doctor and delivered him at the home of his parents, Joel Jacob and Mason Saunders Bradshaw. Yes, Mason was named after his mother, perhaps a Southern tradition where family names are important. He was part of a large family, enjoying four sisters and one brother. He remained close to his family throughout his life and is survived by his youngest sister, Judy.
As a young man, Mason joined the United States Navy and fought in WWII. After the war, Mason became an insurance agent with Farmers Insurance. He was a successful business owner for some 55 years.
Throughout his life, he devoted much of his spare time as President of Children's Welfare Foundation, a part of the fraternal order, The Knights of Pythias. He recently received his 50-year pin in recognition of his many years of service.
On May 17, 1981, he married the love of his life, Suzy. They have enjoyed many happy years together. Mason and Suzy moved to Bear Valley Springs, Tehachapi, California, in 1995. Together they found much pleasure in the beautiful surroundings, and Mason was especially fond of seeing the deer that would come to graze. Mason was a member of the Men's Club and enjoyed playing cards with friends.
Together Mason and Suzy share five children, Janet, Paulette, Michael, Donna, and John. They have 14 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Mason was a very kind man and will be missed by all those whose lives he touched.
A funeral service officiated by Pastor Jeff Kaplan will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Wood Family Funeral Service. Private burial will be at Bakersfield National Cemetery in Arvin, California.
