Adelphia Anne Thomasson was the daughter of William Simpson Thomasson and Nancy B. Turner Thomasson. She was born in North Collinsville, Henry County, Virginia. Her father William was a tobacco planter, owning about 400 acres of land, and several slaves. The family home was a large old double log cabin with dog trot, and dating circa 1840-1850. William died in 1861 of typhoid fever, before the war. His wife Nancy, Adelphia's mother survived until 1891, and lived her later years at the old homeplace, with her son Wilson Owen Thomasson, Adelphia's brother. Adelphia's early paternal forebears were Thomas Thomasson, who came from England to Virginia in 1677, and Thomas's father George Thomason (1602-1666), of London, England, known for his collection of Civil War Tracts, known as the "Thomason Tracts". Adelphia's early maternal forebears were William Turner, Revolutionary War soldier, and his wife Jane Hunter Turner, and William's father Shadrack Turner (1720-1784), Revolutionary War Patriot, and early settler of Henry County, Virginia. On September 13, 1863, Adelphia married Thomas Jefferson Draper of Henry County, Virginia, while he was serving in the Confederate Army. Thomas was born in 1837, and died in 1925. Thomas and Adelphia relocated sometime after the war, leaving Henry Co., Va., traveling by wagon caravan to West Virginia, settling west of Charleston. Adelphia died there in 1910 of cancer. In 1914, Thomas returned to Henry County, Virginia. He lived there his remaining years,with his son Charlie. Thomas died in 1927, seventeen years after Adelphia's death in 1910.
