Andrew, a farmer by occupation, was the son of Richard R. Morris and Mariah Allen . He married Sarah Francis Bybee on 8 July 1858. They were parents to Joseph A. Morris (1861-1862).
He enlisted on 22 July 1861 as a Private in Capt. John B. Magruder's Company (the "Rivanna Guards") of Virginia Volunteers, which became Company "H", 57th Virginia Infantry.
Andrew was wounded severely in the leg and shoulder at Malvern Hill on 1 July 1862, and died in hospital. He is buried in the Joseph Allen plot in an unmarked grave.
